The DM-60 was chosen for its ability to create an even bottom profile in the dam instead of creating a moonscape in the bottom using a hanging pump system which is ineffective in consolidated materials. The DM-60 is in a mountainous region of Guatemala and the dredger was delivered on two trucks six years ago and has been successfully operating since.
Two governments have decided to take matters into their own hands by purchasing dredges and using government staff to get the work completed.
